Understanding Our Competitors
I did competitor research to see what other products were offering and and how users felt about them.
Findings
I classified the findings into design-related problems and those connected to the firmware on the card and narrow them down to a few major problems.
Defining the flow and architecture
I mapped out the wireflow with our information architect to understand how the app interacted with the card’s firmware, which was more complicated than I expected. There were potential scenarios like what happens if the Bluetooth connection suddenly drops. and what happens if the firmware wasn’t updated?
Design Highlights
Added instant feedback for user actions so they’d always know what was happening.

To reduce costs and save battery life, we made the e-paper screen smaller. But with a smaller screen came with a new challenge which was how to display necessary informations clearly.
To solve this, I designed an easy-to-read digital code for displaying letters and numbers, which ensured that users could still get the important details without any confusion, even on a smaller display.
We decided to do a slight rebrand without changing it too much. I redesigned the logo, the physical card, and created a basic design system based on the new brand colors.
Outcome
We didn’t have the resources or time to do user testing before launch. However, we had the chance to showcase the product at blockchain conferences, where I received great feedback. But overall, the project was well-received!
